III.2. VENEZULAN TRADITIONAL RHYTHMS IN 6/8
The traditional accompaniment of the genres in 6/8 time signature is exactly the same as the genres in 3/4 time signature; the only modifi cation is the numbering and accentuations corresponding to 6/8. Previously, in the 3/4 time signature the accents are found in the third and sixth eighth notes of each time signature (hit down), but in the 6/8 time signature, the accent marks correspond to the first and fourth eighth notes of each time signature. All accents must be located in descending hits. This is the most accurate way to achieve an accentuation, since we take advantage of the speed of the downward movement in favor of gravity.
Keeping the same accompaniment structure in 3/4 time signatures, we will change and adjust the appropriate numbering for correct accentuations in 6/8 time signatures. Where before we had the third and sixth tempo in 3/4, now it will be the first and fourth tempo in 6/8; where we previously had the first and fourth tempo in 3/4, now it will be the second and fifth tempo in 6/8; and where before we had the second and fifth tempo in 3/4 (simultaneous hits), now we will have the third and sixth tempo in 6/8 (simultaneous hits). This numerical rotation allows us to execute the accentuations of 6/8 in the downward hits in the first and fourth tempo of each time signature.
III.2.1. JOROPO LLANERO 6/8
The Joropo Llanero in a 6/8 time signature, can be heard in different musical forms: el Pajarillo, Seis por derecho, Seis gureado, etc.
The difference between the 3/4 joropo and the 6/8 joropo, is the accentuation corresponding to the accompaniment. The bass on the 3/4 goes marking the first and third tempo of each time signature, and on the 6/8 is marking the second and third tempo of each time signature.
The maraca in the 3/4 is accentuating the third and sixth eighth note by time signature, and in 6/8 the maraca is marking the accentuations in the first and fourth eighth note by time signature.
